Cold Store

Freako Fresh offers a complete solution for the post harvest management of fresh fruits and vegetables.

We are having our own fully equipped cold store  to play a vital role in reducing the postharvest losses of these edible commodities by enhancing their shelf-life. About one-third of India’s fruits and vegetables production gets wasted, mainly due to poor postharvest handling. Postharvest losses include all the losses occuring after the crop harvesting, during storage and transportation. One significant factor leading to these losses is the Lack of cold storage facilities for the produce. A Cold Storage is basically a large refrigerated room build for storage of fresh produce or processed products at optimum conditions. By maintaining low temperatures (0-2°C) and the required humidity, shelf life of fruits and vegetables can be highly increased. Storage of fruits and vegetables in cold rooms :
• Reduces the production of ethylene.
• Reduces the Moisture loss.
• Slows down the ripening process.
• Protects from any kind microbial growth or spoilage.
• Prevents shriveling, wilting and senescence.
All these factors contribute significantly towards shelf-life enhancement.
Also, there is no effect on the nutritional value of the stored commodity. If the produce being procured from the farmers is stored within a few hours of harvesting, same nutritional value will be maintained during storage.
Timely storage of perishable commodities like fresh fruits and vegetables helps in the regular supply for table or processing purposes. It is also beneficial in price stabilization and proper distribution of the commodities. As of now, there is lack of cold storage facilities in India. However, development of proper cold chains, including cold storage facilities and refrigerated transportation, can help reduce the postharvest losses considerably.
